Tailor Made – Creating an 18ct Rose Gold Diamond Ring

March 31, 2020

Following on from my recent post on social media showing this stunning ring, I thought it would be nice to share how the ring design evolved from initial customer enquiry to the finished piece.

We were initially approached by our client on Facebook asking whether we were able to make a specific design of ring for them and if so the approximate cost . As is always the case we responded quickly and discussed the design concept on Facebook Messenger. Taking these details we created a design so that we could better cost out the diamonds and metal required for the ring.

Once we started the basic design our workshop and I realised that there were potential issues with the setting of the outer diamonds. We knew that the diamonds would need to be set slightly differently in order to create a finished ring that could be worn with confidence.

With the initial design complete we were able to give a basic costing which was dependent on the final central brilliant cut diamond that our client would individually hand pick from a selection of loose stones available.

Pleased with the costing we arranged for our client to sneak in and visit us. During this meeting we presented three variations of the CAD design, including the initial one, and two alternative designs that the workshop had worked on.

Once we had finalised the design we then looked at the loose brilliant cut diamonds explaining the advantages of one over the other and how this would change the price. This meant that our client could judge different quality stone side by side, in the shop and in daylight and make an educated decision as to which stone was perfect for him.

Stone choice finalised and ring design chosen it was now down to our team of experts to create what would turn into this stunning ring. Each diamond was individually calibrated to ensure consistent sizes, whilst they were also matched for cut, colour and clarity, based on matching the central brilliant cut diamond.

While I was assessing the diamonds for the ring our workshop was finalising the ring mount, preparing it for our jewellers to set the diamonds in. It would then be ready for the assay office to verify the 18ct rose gold and assay it accordingly.

When we were completely happy with the finished ring we produced an insurance valuation and contacted the client to say it was finished for them.

Whatever the bespoke work, from melting down gold to create a ring or bangle to designing and making a suite of jewellery our team of experts are on hand to help. Contact us via e-mail or our social media channel and we will be sure to help and advise you.
